Not long ago, KYVE’s Incentivized Testnet,Mission Korellia, was completed. Korellia enabled our team to put KYVE’s features and capabilities to the test and bring forward a mainnet-ready product. However, our journey through space must make one last stop before reaching mainnet, that being on KYVE’s testnet v2,Kaon!
Kaon is our “mainnet testnet,” meaning it’s our official staging environment before taking new features and storage pools to the KYVE mainnet. With that, Kaon is meant to be an — as close to mainnet — replica as possible. And starting today, we’re thrilled to announce that Kaon is officially live!
Let’s get you caught up on why this is a huge, exciting step for us all…
Evolution From Korellia
KYVE’s original testnet, Korellia, was always imagined to be the first step to playing around with the necessary means in bringing forward what we truly envisioned. After over a year of major testing, spamming, bugs, erased or updated features, and more, Korellia’s purpose is fulfilled. With the end of Mission Korellia and our imminent mainnet launch, this called for a v2 of KYVE’s testnet, introducing Kaon.
Kaon is a completely separate chain from Korellia, allowing our team to start from a clean slate with all of the positive learnings we gained from Korellia, leaving behind any unnecessary code or impractical features. Once KYVE’s mainnet launches, Kaon will be the official testing ground for all that’s envisioned for KYVE’s future.
Exploring Kaon
Kaonfunctions just like our previous testnet, using $tKYVE (KYVE’s testnet token) to reward well-behaving participants. However, pre-mainnet, Kaon will have limited access for participation…
In order to create an as close to mainnet replica as possible, Kaon’s state needs to be as similar to how mainnet will be. Meaning at its start, only those who have claim in real $KYVE will be able to participate in order to replicate the mainnet accounts. These users include those who earned $KYVE rewards via Mission Korellia, our genesis validators, team, and more.
That’s right… Those who ranked in the top 10k on Mission Korellia get a special spot in participating on KYVE’s official testnet!
Once these users complete theKYC processand it gets approved, the equivalent of their real $KYVE rewards on the mainnet chain will be matched in $tKYVE on the Kaon chain. These $tKYVE will be distributed in set batches. More information on the $tKYVE distribution will be announced in due time. Those who will be able to participate can find validator resourceshere.
Implementing this structure enables those who are most motivated in testing and improving KYVE to participate. It will also allow KYVE to best replicate all the main accounts to maintain a mainnet-like testing environment to best prepare for mainnet launch and all to come after. A block explorer is in the works to be launched for Kaon, along with other supports.
Didn’t earn $KYVE? Don’t worry! Kaon will be open to the public in due time, our team is currently exploring options for upcoming opportunities to allow community members who don’t have $KYVE rewards to be able to participate as well.
Please keep in mind, our team is currently focusing on the Kaon chain (check its current status on thisexplorer); therefore, the KYVE App will remain connected to the Korellia chain until the protocol layer is ready for action and the first batch of $tKYVE is distributed to users on Kaon. Once this occurs, participants may continue using Korellia. However, Korellia will be represented on a separate app as KYVE’s devnet.
What happens to the $tKYVE on Korellia? Seeing that Korellia and Kaon are completely independent from each other and our goal is to maintain a mainnet replica on Kaon, $tKYVE from Korellia will not be transferable onto Kaon. We greatly appreciate all the activity Korellia has gained this past year, and look forward to seeing this same ambition on Kaon.
Road to Mainnet Launch
Launching Kaon has brought us one major step forward in ourroadmaptoward mainnet launch! We look forward to seeing Kaon’s activity grow, supporting all that’s to come for KYVE. Again, we wouldn’t be here without the amazing support and rigorous testing from our community, we can’t thank you all enough!
More About KYVE
KYVE Networkis revolutionizing customized access to on- and off-chain data by providing fast and easy tooling for decentralized data validation, immutability, and retrieval. Its data lake archives and validates data in a decentralized way, making trustless data easily accessible via solutions like KYVE’s Data Pipeline.
The network is powered by decentralized uploaders and validators funded by $KYVE tokens and aims to operate as a DAO following our mainnet launch. This past year KYVE has gained significant support, currently backed by top VCs, including Hypersphere Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Distributed Global, Mechanism Capital, CMS Holdings, IOSG Ventures, and blockchains such as Arweave, Avalanche, Solana, Interchain, and NEAR.

For those new to KYVE and not fully aware of all that’s being mentioned in this article, let’s break it down a bit further!
Incentivized TestnetIncentivized testnets are quite popular for up-and-coming blockchains. Before launching, it’s crucial to have a testnet environment to test all of the planned features and functionality of the project to make sure all works smoothly. To imitate real-life testing, projects typically incentivize their community members via real token rewards to have them participate in testing out their features as much as possible.
For KYVE, our testnet was on the Korellia chain, hence why it’s dubbed,Mission Korellia. With over 40k unique participants, Mission Korellia took place over four months and included not only engineering-based tasks but also community-content-based tasks to increase the spread of knowledge of KYVE!
Incentivized Testnet RewardsAs mentioned, to best motivate community members to participate in testnet activities, there needs to be rewards. For KYVE’s Mission Korellia, participants’ activity on the testnet was scored on quality and tracked on a leaderboard. Those making it into the top 10k were eligible for $KYVE token rewards. Find all the details by reading into KYVE’sMission Korellia LeaderboardandValidator Delegation Program.)
KYVE MainnetSince KYVE’s start, our team and supporters have been doing all they can to best prepare KYVE for mainnet launch. What is mainnet? Mainnet is a term used to describea working, fully-operational blockchain. KYVE is currently on testnet v2 (Kaon), meaning there is still a bit more testing to be done before going live for the public to actually use! KYVE’s mainnet is aimed to launch at the end of Q1, 2023.
What’s a KYC?KYC, or Know Your Customer, is the process of identifying and verifying the identity of a client via screening. This is an extremely important process when distributing monetized rewards to avoid any possible risks of scams, fraud, or other financial crimes.
KYVE’s KYC process is offered to those who earned $KYVE rewards via Mission Korellia. They can start their KYC process by visiting the user profile page on the KYVE App.
