KYVE’s Incentivized Testnet, Mission Korellia, Complete

In a galaxy far, far away, a team of determined individuals launched a period of testing and development they called the incentivized testnet. Their goal was to include all community members in bringing forward a fine-tuned, revolutionary blockchain for archiving and querying data called KYVE.

KYVE’s incentivized testnet, dubbed Mission Korellia, took place over two phases: the first being open to all sorts of skillsets such as design, community engagement, engineering, and more. And the second focusing more on engineering-based tasks.

After many tests, improvements, interactions, and more, Mission Korellia, is now complete! Let’s take a closer look at all that we have learned and accomplished during this journey…

Phase 1 Liftoff

Phase 1 lifted off on May 2nd, 2022, with full force ahead offering a wide range of skill-based tasks. These tasks were split into three main teams: Team Community, Team Design, and Team Engineering; each with their own set of unique missions in order to either spread knowledge about KYVE, improve its protocol functionality, and more.

From the start, the entire KYVE community was very motivated, and not only brought on impressive social engagement and knowledge sharing, but also KYVE App activity! Here are the app highlights from Phase 1:

  • 1,300+ nodes running (both protocol and chain nodes)
  • 30k+ active users
  • 60k valid data bundles created
  • 30GB+ of compressed data archived onto Arweave

Our team was very pleased with the results and determination of our users. During this first month of testing, we learned a few ways how KYVE can be improved, for example, the user experience in certain areas of the app. Find the full Phase 1 recap here. To further test these newly-found improvements, we wanted to kick Mission Korellia into high gear and give the Engineering Team more of a challenge, hence, Phase 2.

Zeroing in on Phase 2

Phase 2 started off on June 20th, 2022, with the goal to allow developers and node runners in our community to truly shine. To do so, we brought on more engineering-focused tasks, as well as a few limited-time missions such as having users submit as many transactions as possible within a one-hour period, or attempting to cheat the governance. Take a closer look here to find more of what Phase 2 brought on for Mission Korellia participants.

After one month of the community testing our newly added features and improvements, we have seen some great progress in the activity on the KYVE app:

  • 2,200+ nodes running (both protocol and chain nodes)
  • 14k+ active users
  • 178k+ valid data bundles created
  • 83+ GB of compressed data archived onto Arweave

Not only this but together, our community and team came across a few important areas that needed improvement and or innovation to better suit the network participants and the overall protocol flow. These learnings were essential for KYVE’s preparation for mainnet launch.

What We Gathered

With over 43,000 active users funding, staking and delegating in pools, and or participating in KYVE’s governance, we were able to gather many learnings and suggestions from the community on how to improve KYVE. With this, we released a fifth and, shortly after, a sixth protocol update. These updates focused on fine-tuning the pain points we found during testing, for example, certain governance features, slashing terms, validator roles, and pool security. Find more details on KYVE’s latest protocol update here.

More specifically from the limited-time missions, our Engineering team was able to see how well the protocol handled getting spammed by users and figure out what measures need to be put into place to ensure this doesn’t happen while on mainnet. This entire incentivized testnet experience was a major boost forward in KYVE’s innovation and preparation for mainnet.

“The incentivized testnet was more than a huge success. The insights we got into our protocol and the feedback from the community are overwhelming and very valuable. These new learnings make us more confident about the coming mainnet launch and will help us improve the UX for users of KYVE.” Said KYVE CEO, Fabian Riewe.

The hard work isn’t over just yet! There are a few more important features that need testing before KYVE is ready for mainnet. Please note that now, as the incentivized testnet is complete, KYVE will go back into a testnet phase before mainnet release in Q4 of this year. We still need your help and participation in making sure the upcoming features are secure and ready for action. For those who continue participating, lookout out for possible future rewards!

Finally, our team takes treating all users’ participation and rewards very seriously, therefore, we will be re-reviewing all tasks and suggestions made to ensure each participant has the correct amount of points. This also goes for the KYC, which will be coming at a later date along with a perfected $KYVE tokenomics. Follow us on social media to get the latest news on the progress of these upcoming events.
